Abstract

Purpose : This study was conducted to analyze a trend in Trends in nursing research on family member with mental illness in Korea.

Methods: This study analyzed a total of 69 studies related to family member with mental illness which were found at KISS & http://www.riss.kr.

Results : Of the 69 studies, 28 (40.6%) were for thesis studies for a degree, 41 (59.4%) for academic journals. There were 53 (76.8%) quantitative studies, 15 (21.7%) qualitative studies, and 1 (1.4%) Triangulation study. The most frequently used study design was a descriptive study. The majority of study participants were Outpatient family members. The thesis articles were searched by using key words as follows: mental illness, burden, self-esteem, stress and others.
Conclusion: The most frequently used study design of family member with mental illness was a descriptive study, and research key words varied. Furthermore, more experimental research is needed on nursing intervention and qualitative studies related to family member with mental illness.
